Smiling all the Way From A to Z -- A

I'm participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge. Here's the scoop: For the month of April, I am going to post something different from A-Z everyday, except for Sundays.

I thought long and hard about what I want my posts to focus on. My posts are going to be simple because 26 posts in one month is a lot, but a challenge I am willing to take. And I'm rather excited about joining forces with tons of great bloggers to make this challenge a huge success.

My posts are going to be about what makes me smile. I'd like you to comment about what makes you smile that coincides with the letter of the day, too. I figure writing is tough and if we can focus on the smiles, then this journey will be filled with letters full of happiness.

So today's letter, of course, is A.

It stands for ANIMALS.

Yes, simple but true. Whenever I take a look at an animal my face lights up with a grin. Animals are free from our mundane cares. They have simple lives--just eat, sleep, and poop. But what makes me smile the most about animals is how cute they can be. They can be fluffy, soft, rough, scraggly, among hundreds of other adjectives.

I like animals; although, some I wouldn't want to be alone in a room with. However, I have done a fair bit of back packing and have come across some really big bears on the trail. It's crazy to be so close to something so massive, wild and yet admire it for it's amazing cuteness.

Well, that's what makes me smile, letter A style.

What makes you smile that starts with the letter A?

  2. I love this theme idea. So positive :) Animals make me smile as well, along with angels, apple pie, and art.

    1. My sister-in-law makes a mean apple pie--the only kind I will eat. Numms!

  3. My parents had a close encounter with a mother grizzly in Yosemite! (Well, I'm not sure if it was a grizzly, but it was a very big bear.)

    1. Encountering bears definitely makes the heart thump harder, but awe inspiring. The trick is to make noise along the trail. That method will help bears to hear ya coming. It's when you sneak up on them that they get startled and will become defensive. Anyway, there's my wee bit of bear knowledge. :)

  4. Lots of animals make me smile too, definitely a a great choice for your 'A' post. My dad is an artist so I'd have to say art as well. Love his paintings and they always make me smile. (:

    1. Well, thanks for the compliment. I sort of thought it was a silly, not super creative idea, but I like it!

  8. Yes, animals are great friends and free of our mundane cares as you said. Sometimes, I wish I were free of those cares too. :)
Such a friendly theme. Look forward to reading more during the Challenge.

  10. Animals are pretty cute, except for the rattlesnake I ran over on my mountain bike outside of Moab. That snake wasn't cute nor was it very happy!

    1. I can imagine. Moab, eh? Another Utahn at the keyboard! I love Utah writers. I'm from SLC. BTW-my dad accidentally rode his bike into a cow in the dark near Delta, Utah years ago. Yup, the cow seemed to be hurt worse than my dad. It's a pretty funny story. :)

  11. I am so glad you are doing this too Julia. It's my first time doing a blogging challenge and I have my posts through M done. I like that you chose a theme for things that make you smile. I maybe should've chosen a theme but perhaps one will organically grow from it. I love animals. I've always wanted a koala bear. :)

  13. I love animals so much I used to want to be a vet. One of the reasons I didn't pursue it is because I wouldn't have the heart to put down an animal, even if it were old and sick. I have a whole menagerie of stuffed animals now, and share my bed with a gigantic stuffed frog named Simon. He's almost as big as I am!

  17. I probably wouldn't bother owning a pet, especially where I live now, but I do enjoy watching animals. They are fascinating to observe.

  18. I would say animals can make me smile as well, cute lil bunnies are the best I used to own one. Another thing that makes me smile are acceptance letters from places I have submitted work to.
