Smiling all the Way From A to Z -- R

With being a writer, the letter R will be pretty obvious.

READING

I love me some books. Falling into a maze of fiction lightens any day and brings a smile glittering across my face. Well, sometimes books make me cry, too. Examples: "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak and "These is My Words" by Nancy E. Turner.

I have read a ton of books and plan on reading a hefty load more--they are heavy, I assure you. With having moved 3 times in the last year and a half, I would know. And I'm moving again in just over a week from now.

So you know how yesterday I wrote about quirks? Here is another one about me... I am an extremely active reader. While being captivated by a story, I will talk, scream, growl, and giggle at the book. That's just how much I become twisted within the web of a book's story. It is as if I am really there, experiencing everything that the characters feel, touch, smell, taste, and see. I become the character and it is everything I can do to put the book down to go to sleep.

Reading is priceless, precious to me.

What is your favorite book? What kind of a reader are you? Do you have a favorite genre? Do you talk to a book while you read it? Please tell me I'm not alone. haha

PS: Refer to the blurb on the very top of my blogs sidebar to know why I am posting about what makes me smile. Go forward and smile!

  3. I have boxes and boxes of books too; some that haven't even been unpacked in the last two house moves!

    1. It seems like my life is set up in 6 months increments; therefore life is bringing about more moves than I'd want lately. Super Grrr. Oh, speaking of grrrr, the end of Delirium by Lauren Oliver brought about at least 20 minutes of growling at the book. Seriously, I was growling because of the crazy cliffhanger in it. Likewise, it happened again at the end of the second book in the series. I'm currently reading the last book and hope there won't be any growling taking place again. haha

  5. I wish I had time to read. The last book that made me cry was P.S. I Love You. Since then, I've read books that have moved me and made me think, but none made we cry and laugh like that one. If you have a recommendation, I would love to know ~ I'm due for a book that just brings out my emotions. Have a great weekend.

I haven't spoken to characters yet, but I do wish I could be certain characters.... lol :)

    1. I should get a Kindle, but having a real book in my hand is priceless. One day I'm sure I'll crack. :)

  7. I never realized how heavy books are until I had to move. Now THAT was a workout! I love reading though, and I don't plan on stopping for a long time :)

  8. Good luck with your moving.

I loved The Book Thief, and yes, the book really grabbed me at various moments.

  9. Hi, my name is Krista and I talk to book characters as I read. Also, I talk to the television when I watch good shows. Oops?

I love reading! It's what really got my interest in writing because I wanted to be like those great authors and tell a great story. My favorite of all time would have to be Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. :)

  10. I can relate to this on almost every level. I too am obsessed with reading. What a beautiful way to enrich a life!!! I have a long list of favorite books from different times in my life :)

  11. Sorry that your life is such a moving experience, Julia. We have moved quite a few times, too. And lugging boxes upon boxes of books is a real pain. Particularly in the back. "Grrrr," said the Bear. Good luck with this upcoming "adventure."

I am a reader of non-fition. When or if I run out of non-fiction, I may try fiction. (I swear, though, sometimes the non-fiction that I read has a lot of fiction in it!)

I think I've answered most of your questions. When I read, I have an ongoing notable interaction with the author in the book margins. Not quite conversation. On the other hand, I do have loud conversations with the teleision when I watch it. Does that count?

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  13. I talk to my books, too! It'll be dead quiet, and then I'll be like, "What are you doing? Don't go up the stairs!" LOL

  14. Since we're combining reading and quirks, I'll tell you something I haven't admitted before--you know, just between us two, and everyone else who reads this blog. If a book's character has an accent of some kind, and I'm really enjoying the book, sometimes I'll read try to read a passage aloud in that accent...like I'm in the book. LOL! Does that make me an involved reader or certifiably insane? I know there is a thin line at times. ;)

  15. I've been known to growl at my books too, lol! Good luck with the move! (:

  16. Put down a book to go to sleep? What's that? ;-) I have been known to laugh and cry at a book and even tell characters they're being stupid, but I don't recall ever having growled at one. I hope your move goes well!

Hope you’re having fun with the A to Z challenge,
    Jocelyn

  17. I love reading books too, but I'm a lazy reader. I just lounge on the sofa and turn the pages... Happy blogging the rest of the way to Z!

  18. I'm the same way. My daughter loves to watch me read- she can usually tell when I've gotten to a particularly good scene. It may be from my squeal of delight, though.

  19. I'm very vocal with my books too. I read very fast, and quite a lot. Like 3-4 books a week, sometimes more. I'd rather read than do just about anything else. That's probably why my house looks like an episode of Hoarders. LOL
