Smiling all the Way From A to Z -- J

Hello again! It's letter J day in the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge. Gees, this has been fun so far. I've enjoyed coming up with so many posts since I typically only post once a week. Anyway, on to J....
JOKES
make me smile. That's a given, obviously. You have to be a moldy, dead plant on the side of the road on a murky Tuesday afternoon if jokes don't make you laugh. No, seriously.
I enjoy a good joke. But I mostly enjoy the random, dry jokes my brother offers sporadically during conversations. They are so sudden and not expected that I can't help but grin and LOL. Do you have a friend or family member who can pull a joke out of their head within seconds, and it follows the conversation so well it feels like it was scripted? Well, that's my brother for ya!
The funny thing about jokes is sometimes I won't get the joke until seconds or minutes after the punch-line has come and gone. Of course, I offer the customary laugh of which I figure everyone and their dog notices is truly not sincere. Often times, though, I'll just be honest and say, "Uh, I don't get it," which more often than not will cause the joke teller and other members of the group to laugh or stare at me with blank expressions as though I am a moldy, dead plant on the side of the road on a murky Tuesday afternoon.
Hey folks, at least I'm honest. I really just want to get the joke. I do get most jokes, and they sure make me smile.
I love British humour, especially that of "Mr. Bean" and "Keeping Up Appearances." Brilliant shows. :)
So tell me your favorite joke? Starting with the letter J, what makes you smile?

PS: Refer to the blurb on the very top of my blogs sidebar to know why I am posting about what makes me smile. Go forward and smile!

  3. Yes, jokes are great. I work for a hospice so our work is very draining and sad somedays, so we are constantly joking when not talking about patients. It helps get us through!

  4. British humor is great. I can zing a good one-liner now and then. Sometimes my wife will just suddenly spout something that is absolutely hilarious. (Works best when she's not trying.)

  5. My husband makes puns all the time. Most of them are funny, but a few of them are real groaners. I usually laugh anyway. :)

    Happy Thursday!

  6. My son is the one in our family who has a joke waiting and ready for any scenario. He lives to make us laugh. What do you call a Mexican man with rubber on his toe? Roberto...

  7. I'm the worst at telling jokes. Like you, I sometimes just don't get them until later.....and I too receive that quizzical look from everyone. Thanks for popping by- you've got an awesome name!!!! Lol!

  8. I do like dry humour, and British humour. Reminds me of a story about President Bush (the younger). He got caught between Iraq and a hard place.

  9. Sometimes I watch the X-Files just for the dry humor. I'm also a big fan of The Office. Humor keeps me from going crazy sometimes.

  12. A brain and two jump leads (see the J there?) walk into a pub. The brain asks for three pints of lager but the barman says "Sorry, I'm not serving you". The brain says "why not?" The barman says "Because you're out of your head and your mates look like they're about to start something."

    British enough for you? :D

  18. A murky, moldy plant on a Tuesday afternoon is exactly how I feel Monday-Friday after I get out of class :D

I love jokes, though I'm no good at telling them. I have a pretty broad sense of humor. I love Family Guy (so horrible, I know!) but cheesy puns make me laugh too!

  19. I am not good at telling jokes (unless they're the sarcastic/ironic kind) and I know what you mean by not getting some--or realizing what they mean too late!

  20. Jokes are awesome and often the delivery is everything. People that can tell them with a straight face crack me up!! Love it!

  21. In telling a joke, it's all about the delivery and sadly most of my family members don't have it. But, being a good wife and mother, I tell them they don't ;-)
