Jewels Hates. Jewels Loves.

I hate . . .

Repetitive noises like a ticking clock or a dripping faucet. Ugh, the personal hell that is found in these noises; they quite possibly could drive me absolutely crazy.

People calling me Julie is my biggest pet peeve. When people call me Julie, I will cringe and instantly correct their grievous mistake. If my parents wanted people to call me Julie, they would have named me Julie. You may call me Julia, Jules, or J, but never Julie. I have no problem with the name Julie. I know a lot of people with the name and adore them. I just don’t feel like a Julie. I’m a JULIA!

Pulp in orange juice is disgusting to me. I will go to the trouble of straining the pulp out of orange juice because I hate it that much. Pulp is nasty and icky to me.

Wet hair in the bathtub grosses me out (IE. on the wall, drain, or soap). I’ve been close to throwing up because of the matter-out-of-place hair. It disgusts me even more if it is on my body. Yuck!

I love . . .

Dogs are my best friend. I once went on a date with a guy who was allergic to dogs. Instantly, I knew things never would work out between us. A, yep, I never went out with him again. A miniature beagle is my choice for a dog. Her name will be Elliot (Ellie for short).

Being warm is a must for me. If I am cold, I am a way unhappy camper. I have a couple blankets that always are tucked around me at home. It makes me feel like Linus from Charlie Brown. I love being warm and love my favorite blankets.

Sleeping in is my favorite thing ever. Well, not really, but it sure is nice. If there was a degree in sleeping in, I’d have at least a couple hundred diplomas. *Sigh*

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies are my favorite and most beloved cookie. I could eat a whole batch in one setting. Really! My mom has this super good recipe that I’m gonna share with you here. They are nummilicious.

½ cup shortening
1 egg
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup pumpkin
2 ½ cups flour
1 t. salt
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. baking powder
1 t. vanilla
1 t. cinnamon
1 bag (11.5 oz) of Guittard milk chocolate chips (must be Guittard)
1 cup butterscotch chips (I added this to the recipe, it’s nummy)
Stir shortening to soften, gradually add sugar and vanilla, cream together until smooth, add egg and mix well. Sift flour and seasonings and add to creamy mixture alternately with pumpkin. Beat until smooth. Fold in chips. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes at 375.

What are some of your loves and hates?

  1. I have a daughter named Julia. I don't call her Julie, but my husband does. She doesn't mind :) (of course, she's six--maybe she'll feel more strongly about it later!).

I hate the sound of someone squeaking a balloon, or similar noises. Yeek! I hate squash. Gag.

I love the smell of rain. And sitting on the heating vent when the furnace is on.

  2. Stephanie - I remember sitting on the heater vent when I was a kid. I'd place one of my fav blankets over me to be super duper warm. Mmmm, Love it. Good pick for your daughter's name. Tell your hubby to stop calling her Julie. hehe! Thanks for the comment.

  3. Ha, I get the opposite. I'm a Julie and people insist my name is "short" for Julia. First of all, no, there is no "a" in my name on my birth certificate. Secondly, my name would not be "short" for a name of the exact same length.
I especially like when people insist -- after I politely correct them -- that I am, in fact, wrong about my name.

I agree with the pulp in orange juice thing (I don't want to have to chew when I'm drinking, thanks) and the sound I think is absolutely most hateful is when people chew with their mouths open. *shudder*

Feeling so negative, I have to say one of my all-time absolute favorite things is a banana fritter recipe from a much-loved recipe book. I would choose those fritters over almost anything from any restaurant. . . they're that good. :)

  4. That is so funny that you have the opposite prob with your name than I have. Yeah, Julie is NOT short for Julia. Silly people. I agree completely on the chewing with mouth open. I shudder and cringe too. Thanks for the comment.

  6. Kris - I love finding dog lovers. What kind of dog is your fav? Glad I could share the recipe with you! All thanks to Mama King.

  7. That's too funny Julia. I hate seeing hair in the shower too. I've never known anyone who has the same disgust for it.
I have a different yet similar problem with my name. People insist on saying my name "Jacqueline" like jackalin. There is NO "K" in my name.
And I love getting random hugs from my three year old. Nothing is better!

  8. Jackie - I bet that is so annoying when people say your name wrong. I love hugs too from my nephews. They are quite possibly the most heavenly hugs ever!

  9. This is a fun post! Made me really think...and I don't think very often. Okay, that's a lie. Of course I do. I think a lot about Oreos and chocolate and, oh, yeah, my kids...

Nah, seriously, this was nice. I just added you on Twitter and saw that you added me, too--yay! New friends! I love the name Jules and have used it for a protag in a WIP just 'cuz I like it so much. And although I'm Jennifer, I've gotten Jessica and Rebecca quite often, and for a stage during my formative years, I was often called Jeffrey because the formative part took a long time to arrive. So I looked like a boy from age 11 to about 14. I like to think of it as more androgynous than anything...keep 'em guessing, I always say. :o)

Looking forward to future posts! OH--I almost forgot--I HATE bad drivers, dead, mushy cereal left in the bottom of the sink, COOKING, and pretty much anything that has to do with food preparation (I'll eat, though, boy!). I LOVE daiquiri ice cream from Baskin & Robbins, American Oreos (Canadian Oreos blow), sleeping late, my blankie (my mom calls me Linus STILL, and I'm 39!!!), and my kids (there are 4 of them, little brats). And my cat. And my husband, too, I s'pose, to be fair. Thanks for asking!

P.S. Beagles are ruled by their noses. We have one. She's a walking nose. Just so you're aware...

  10. Jenn - you make me happy. Just reading your comment made me love you! It's funny cause my sister's name is Jennifer and brother's name is Jeffrey. It is like you're already my family. I hate food stuck at the bottom of the sink too. Thanks for the comment. I hope I can deliver great posts in the future for you!

  11. I hate: dentists, being late, itchy clothes, family conflicts, mopping the floor, getting old...just to name a few.

I love: rain, chocolate chip cookies, Josh Groban, books in the mail, the mountains, road trips, rock concerts, big sweatshirts, kids home, open windows.... just to name a few. :)

  12. Suey - yep, not too keen on the dentist. I am a fan of rock concerts too! I should have put in that I love pajama bottoms. hehe Thanks for the comment!

  16. YES on the dripping water and the icky pulp and definitely the name issue. I'm a Jillian, neverevereverever Jill. I blame my anti-Jill parents (who also made sure my brother was always Andrew, never Andy). It was especially annoying back in high school (okay, fine, and college and grad school), because I never felt comfortable repeatedly correcting teachers who called me "Jill." I just did the silent cringing part :-D
