*Knocks on wood repeatedly while praying to the I don't want to have a broken bone or cavity gods*
Not to say that I haven't sprained my ankles or had a black eye. What can I say, I'm a klutz at heart. This is probably why I have never gone skiing or snowboarding. My tender head would be the part of my body knocking on wood in that case.
*Splat*
Well, where is this all going? I have no idea. To be honest, I haven't a clue what to write for today's post, so I'm winging it all the way. My first thought as I opened up a new post screen was Friday the Thirteenth. Thus, that is where I started. Now, I'm all the way to the very word I'm typing right now. Granted, by the time you read this word it will have been hours, maybe even days or weeks after my fingers have plucked the word out on the screen.
But, alas, I think I have a point to all my ramblings:
When you have no idea what to write...
JUST WRITE!!!
See, I didn't know where to take my blog post today, but one little idea has actually turned into something that really has writing value to it. Something to help all of us crazy authors escape from icky writer's block and move forward with our stories.
Anyway, currently, I'm doing some major revisions on one of my books. Instead of stewing over how to edit it and staring wide-eyed at the computer screen, I take a proactive approach by going for it. Just Do It! I write. Take out what I don't like. And go over it again to make sure.
Because, guys and girls, I'm determined. I WILL be published. And with every click of the keyboard, I'm one letter closer.
So, my advice on this not-so-scary Friday the Thirteenth is:
JUST WRITE!
*BAM* *POW* *BANG* or *BOO*
What are your thoughts on this subject? Or you can talk about Friday the Thirteenth. Or whatever you feel like writing because all you need to do is WRITE! And your comment will start to flow. Or story. :D
Writing. Jewels.
OMG! I'm so out of it with the challenge that I had no idea today was Friday the 13th and it's 5pm over here! LOL, Write on Julia, write on!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's already 5PM there. Well, you are in Europe. That would make a differenece... Uh, dumb comment. haha You write on, too!
DeleteSo true, just do it! And I didn't realize it was Friday the 13th, though I'm not superstitious about it. No triskaidecophobia here (or however you spell it!) :D
ReplyDeleteHaha. I forgot that there's actually a phobia name for being scared of Friday the 13th. Glad I'm not one of those people. I'd still be in bed hiding my head under my covers. Actually, maybe I should plea triskaidecophobia so I CAN still be in bed right now. Sigh!
DeleteThat's great advice. Too often I don't write because I feel like it needs to be better. But sometimes you just need to give herself permission to do some free writing.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I like blogging... I can free write whatever is on my mind. Another creative outlet for a writer. Pretty nice, huh?
DeleteWonderful advice, and you're right about just doing it. If you don't keep going, then nothing will ever get done.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Just watching the computer screen never got anything done. Thanks for your comment!
DeleteThis is truth. Who knows what's lurking inside your brain, just dying to come out?
ReplyDeleteWait.
That sounded way less creepier before I said it out loud.
Creepy! I'm scared for sure! :D
DeleteI was born on Friday the 13th. Just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteNow, what does that say about you...??? haha
DeleteFunny that you have the Nike logo up. Mike (husband) heard an interview on NPR about that slogan - Just Do It - and how it ended up being probably the most successful slogan in advertising. Kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's only three words. Amazing. I remember living in Taiwan and seeing the Nike swoosh every once in a while. It has infiltrated all of the world. McDonalds is pretty awesome with its marketing campaign as well. I took an Anthroplogy class (that's what I majored in) and we studied about McDonaldization. It's McDonalds and how they've mastered planting themselves in other countries by tweaking their menu slightly to the taste and likes of the given area. Amazing efforts.
DeleteAnyway, thanks for the random fact.
Whenever I'm not sure what to write, I just write. It really do free your mind and usually I can come up with something worth keeping.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with those revisions. It sounds like you are doing a great job with them. :)
Thanks. Revisions are on their way and I'm feeling good about my progress.
DeleteExcellent advice. Just connecting with the story and characters will get the creative juices flowing.
ReplyDeleteah, best advice EVER! and yeah, I completely forgot it was friday the 13th! :)
ReplyDeleteI would have forgotten too if it weren't my coworkers birthday. I sort of want to watch a scary movie tho.
DeleteOh man. I wrote a big long comment then lost it! No fair. So I will just say... I completely agree. It's the best thing to do!
ReplyDeleteUgh! I hate it when that happens. My heart drops down into my legs while I glare at the computer screen. Grrrr.... Glad to have you stop by.
DeleteI love this post and totally agree! Hope your day is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSometimes there's nothing else for it. Great post. I find writing dialogue can help if I'm stuck, it can help to work out things in the plot and you don't have to worry about fancy description too much because it's basically like talking. It might not end up in the finished book but it can be useful!
ReplyDeleteLaughing that Michael was born on Fri the 13th ;) Keep that motivation going, girl :D
